Clubs

The Grand River Valley Philatelic Association (GRVPA) has 13 Clubs plus Youth Stampex as Charter Members (see reverse for details). As an organization, the GRVPA offers stamp collectors and clubs a variety of services and assistance. Among these are:

  1. The Grand News, started in 1969, published 5 times a year. A forum listing the events and news for the member clubs. An opportunity for a limited number of advertisers to reach more than 600 collectors.
  2. Insurance for all sanctioned events held by Charter Clubs or the GRVPA (meetings and shows).
  3. Provides a forum for member clubs to share ideas and develop shared resources. Among these are:
    • A list of guest speakers for Club Meetings
    • A method for listing and sharing display frames and easels
    • Development of an unbiased judging system for exhibits
    • Special events like the "Club Fair"
    • Initiate discussions about a possible future" Grandpex" or any other special event
    • Utilize 13 club resources rather than just 1
  4. Member Clubs sponsor 13 Club Bourses annually. Most include exhibits. These Club bourses feature over 60 different dealers, offering a wide variety of opportunity for collectors to find those elusive items they want.
  5. The Howard Bryce Memorial Trophy awarded annually to a GRVPA Club member for major contribution to the success of a member Club. Recently added the GRVPA Memorial Trophy honouring contributions in the last year.
  6. Club shows start in late Sept., and with the exception of Dec., there is at least one per month through May.
  7. Hamilton hosted Royal ´98 and hosted a Millennium Show in June 2000. The GRVPA co-hosted GRANDPEX in 2002.
  8. The annual Club Fair provides the opportunity for collectors to have access to thelargest gathering of Club Circuit Books in Canada (estimate is in excess of 350).
  9. Youth Stampex is present at many of the Club Bourses providing children with an inexpensive method to become involved in stamp collecting. A 40 liter box of free stamps for children is available to every Member Club´s Bourse (this is sponsored and maintained by a member club for the GRVPA). A beginner envelope at a nominal price.
  10. Annually, there is a "Grand" night at a volunteer club. This involves a guest speaker plus the presence of as many Club Circuits as can reasonably attend.
